Do you want to explore how people counting systems work? If you’re hosting an industry event or exhibition, footfall analytics tools are crucial for ensuring the success of events. At Exposure Analytics we’re here to explain what people counting systems exist, how they work and why they’re important.

We’ll also introduce our own cutting-edge people counting systems and the benefits they offer for industry events and exhibitions.

How Do People Counting Systems Work?

There are a number of different people counting systems available, and each one uses a different technology to count numbers.

Infrared Sensors

The most common form of people counting sensor, infrared sensors, use beams of infrared light that project into a space. When visitors pass through the beam the sensor recognises someone has passed and counts this towards an individual entering or exiting a space.

These lasers are the most inexpensive people counting method and are easy to install, but they do however have issues with accuracy in large crowds or very wide spaces.

Video Detection

Video cameras can act as people counting systems. Placed at a vantage point on ceilings or doorways the camera will have a wide scope and can record continuous footage during an event. These cameras usually come with accompanying software that monitors a live feed and identifies the number of people in a space as they enter or exit.

Video monitoring systems can provide highly accurate data and can give you additional information including dwell time and interaction data. These systems are however more expensive due to the advanced technology, although they are often the best investment for footfall data

Wifi and Bluetooth Counting Systems

Wifi or Bluetooth people counting systems use the signals given from smartphones and electronic devices in order to count people. With each device that is detected on the network, an estimated number of people in the area is created. Intelligent software can also identify how long a device stays in one area.

The only drawback to this method of tracking is that not all people carry a smartphone and some even carry several devices, meaning that the data may not always be an accurate reflection of attendees. For the most part, however, Wifi tracking is helpful for modern events.

Our People Counting Systems at Exposure Analytics

At Exposure Analytics, we offer three main systems that help your event analysis and each one of our people counting systems collects different data.

Ex Sensor

Ex Sensors work by utilising the wifi signals at events. These compact devices collect data from the smartphones of attendees using wifi signals and allow your business to identify important metrics including the number of attendees, dwell times in certain areas and engagement rates.

This data is anonymously captured and complies with GDPR. Our technology also respects visitor privacy and doesn’t store any personal information.

People Coordinates

Our People Coordinates system uses highly accurate 3D sensors to analyse footfall at your event. Each attendee’s movements are monitored across sensors throughout a venue. Every visitor is given an ID that allows their movements to be monitored in real-time. This people counting sensor gives you a more advanced step in footfall analytics and allows you to see how visitors interact and engage with their environment.

Apex

The Apex monitor takes people counting systems to the next level and provides the most precise tracking solution. With this sensor, you can count how many visitors are in a designated area as small as 1m². Entry, exit and dwelling points are all monitored with accuracy and in real time with a single sensor thanks to the ultra-wide viewing angles.

This Apex system delivers live metrics that identify brand interaction and visitor movement.

With Exposure Analytics, you can choose from any of our people counting systems and select the best solution for your events. Each one of our products includes digital dashboard software that allows you to access the data from your sensors in real time and in an organised smart tracking manner.

Why Should You Use a People Counting System?

Utilising a people counting system has a wide range of benefits that can help you identify visitor behaviour and ensure the success of your events and exhibitions

Improved ROMI

Using a people counting system to capture visitor data can help you identify areas of improvement and success at your events so you can accurately distribute your budget to the right areas in future events. This can in turn help boost your Return On Marketing Investment.

Accurate Data Reporting

Our intelligent and automated software provides live and accurate data on visitors compared to manual or more outdated people counting methods. Receive more in-depth information than just attendees with features that measure repeat visitors, dwell time and engagements.

Real Time Insights

Live feedback and monitoring on the dashboard system allows you to make immediate improvements and changes to your event set-up. From staff placement to stall locations, you can use live data as a guide for future events and make alterations on the day for maximum effect.

Customer Satisfaction

Understanding how long visitors stay in one area, visitor demographics and other data can help you streamline events to maximise customer satisfaction. Ensuring your event has the optimal layout, adequate space for crowds and brand display placements means that customers can have a smoother and more enjoyable experience.
